Having enjoyed myself so much on Friday I decided to make a return trip to Stockbridge Down not knowing that Tim Norriss had sent me an email saying he was also going to Stockbridge with Lynn Fomison and would I like to join them. Either way the answer would have been “yes” but Tim knowing me well had already entered Stockbridge Down and the right place and we soon met up to enjoy, what was to be, a 5 hour marathon.
With Tim’s vast knowledge of all things that either fly or crawl about and with Lynn’s knowledge on fauna it wasn’t long before I was soaking up knowledge like a dry sponge along with trying to photograph all that we found which is why it all took five hours.
Much like Odiham in the week the array of insects is astounding and much of what we saw was not recorded either because of poor photography or because insects know very well how to hide.
At one time trying to snap a micro moth I missed a larva on a leaf just behind, such was my focus.
Here are some of the moths etc that we saw on that day, a day that left me tired and totally worn out having not walked this far in years and yet on a high from the days experience.
It should be now that I thank Tim & Lynn for such an amazingly enjoyable day but they had another ace up their sleeve and I was to be invited again the next day to the “Garden of Eden” a place of such beauty I will never forget the experience.
All the very best
