The roadsides were showing nice clusters of Snowdrops along with the odd smattering of Dandelion and Lesser Calendine. Not a sight of a Brimstone until I reached Odiham Common where three individual males were flying along the side of the road where Bramble and leaf litter is found.I needed to get a record shot so crept into the Brambles in the hope that the butterfly would stay there. I achieved shots of a couple of the Brimsones, suffered Bramble lacerations but went home happy.
During the duller periods the Brimsone would lean over on the leaf litter and face the sun in order to take advantage of the extra heat and possibly gain heat from the warm, dry leaf litter at the same time.(See photo below)
When the last Brimsone didnt move I knew it was telling me the best of the weather was over and he was correct.
