I moved the lure from one gorse to another and waited to see how quickley he picked up the pheromone, this way kept him at the lure for about ten minutes or more but you cant tire an Emperor moth, thats for sure.
About 3-30 I moved the lure to another part of this relatively small heath and was blown away when I had four hovering round the lure, but they didnt stay long as the clouds were winning the battle with the sunshine.
I tried again after 4pm when the sun eventually did come out without success so just maybe the 3-4pm senario is correct time for flight time of these males.
I had some more nearly shots but dont wish to bore all with failure.
Add a Common Lizard and a Grass Snake that had me searching for my "Puppy's on a Roll" and you can see it was an interesting visit. Dont like snakes, have snakeophobia , sorry!!!
A dental appointment this morning put me close to the Odiham moths so I checked out as I was early and found March Moth 3,Streamer 3,Early Thorn 1 - NFY & Hebrew Character 1 so not much again.
