Description

UK Distribution: Very local in southern England and southern Wales

Habitat: Coniferous Woodland : Pine trees on Heathland and Moorland
Similar Species -
Overwinters as: Larva
Observations: The forewing are dark greyish brown,finely speckled yellowish,lighter brown basally,and two metallic cross lines from dorsum to about half way across the forewing,short white streaks along the costa and the occelus edged bluish metallic with three or four black dashes laterally.
Although similar to C.coniferana this moth does not have the pronounced white dorso blotch which is confluelent with the antemedian line half way along the forewing.
The moth is a Nationally scarce species under the biodiversity Action Plan and is restricted to pine coniferous woodland in southern England and southern Wales.
Flies around tops of pines during the day and is occasionally attarcted to the light trap.
