Worldwide Distribution: N & C Europe to : Russia : Korea : Japan
UK Distribution: Common in some parts of Britain depending on host plant, but local in Scotland

Overwinters as: Larva
Observations: This moth is similar to the nationally scarce moth Pine Resin-gall Moth R.resinella Linnaeus, 1758 whch has darker wing markings with the cilia of the hindwing showing white instead of grey.
The forewing of this moth is a mixture of browns,white and black with the cross-bands usually created by the brown colour, although this is not always clear.
The moth flies in the evening and is attracted to light.
