Description
Wingspan: 14-21mm
Worldwide Distribution: Europe - excluding (Azores,Balearic Is.,Bulgaria,Canary Is.,Channel Is.,Crete,Corsica,Croatia,Cyprus,Greece, Ireland, Madeira,Malta,Portugal,Sardinia,Sicily & Ukraine) to China,Japan & Korea
UK Distribution: Fairly common in south east England,East Anglia but scarcer in north west England and southern Scotland, also appearing in other localities of Scot's Pine woodland.

Habitat: Pine Woodland : Heathland supporting young pines
Similar Species -
Overwinters as: Larva
Observations: The moth has orange labial palps,head and throrax with the forewing being mottled light brown with darker brown cross lines to two thirds along the forewing, with the remainder being suffused orangey brown.
The hindwing is whitish in the male and pale grey on the female.
A nationally scarce moth in pine woodlands it is found mainly in south east England and East Anglia to north east England but is scarcer in north west Scotland.
The moth flies form late afternoon and is attracted to light.
