Description
Wingspan: 27 - 32mm
Worldwide Distribution: Central, eastern and southern Europe
UK Distribution: Rare migrant to south coast
UK Conservation Status -
Habitat: Subalpine Conifer Forests
Similar Species -
Observations: A rare migrant from central, eastern and southern Europe, the first sighting of this moth in Britain occurring on the 27 September 2013 from St Sampsons - Guernsey in the Channel Islands.Another record was made from Icart Point in Guernsey on 19 May 2014 with four being recorded in England the same year with Bracklesham - West Sussex - 18 May,Dymchurch - Kent - 20 May, Freshwater - Isle of Wight - 7 June and Greatstone Kent - 8 June. It is suggested the moth occurred as an immigrant on the Channel Isles due to the close date correlation between the second moth and two of the later specimens, all May 2014.
The fourth English record caught by light trap on 8 June was a female which deposited five ova in the bare plastic container but one was dislodged and lost with the remaining ova hatching on the 18 June. The larvae were reared on Norway Spruce. Description of larval stages above.
The forewings are triangulated and closed at rest so hindwings are not visible. They are whitish buff colour with a darker median area with antemedial and postmedial lines showning clearly in darker brown. The median band is narrow at the dorsum and wider at the costa with a dark brown apial streak.
