Description
Wingspan:
Worldwide Distribution: Europe - less Channel Isles,Croatia,Greece & some Mediterranean Islands : as far east as Japan & Kuril archipeligo
UK Distribution: Common throughout southern England and south Wales but less frequent in the north
UK Conservation Status -
Habitat: Woodland : Hedgerows : Gardens
Similar Species -
Pupa: Pupates among plant litter or fine soil
Overwinters as: Pupa
Observations: The moth is white with few defining marks apart from the antemedian and post median lines being fine black spots finishing at the costa with larger black spots. The hindwing is basically white with a weak postmedian cross line and two fine black discal spots.
This moth is similar to a highly worn Green Carpet and Clouded Silver which is larger with more dark shading.
The moth can be disturbed during the day and is attracted to light appearing at the moth trap in small numbers.
