Description

Observations: Although this moth is similar to G.sociana (Haworth, 1811)the frons above the eyes are creamy white whereas the similar species is pure white. The brown,(sometimes mixed with greyish white) distinguishes this moth from other Gypsomana species.
The nominate form of this moth is white background with a blackish brown basal patch,angled at antemedial line with a dark suffusion from costa to dorsum which is interrupted at the mid point with a small black streak. The apex is orangy brown.
Dark individuals occur obscuring the white ground colour with greyish or purplish grey but the mid black streak is still evident as a prominent feature for identification purposes.
The moth flies from dusk and is attracted to light
