Description
Wingspan: 32-37mm

Pupa: Pupates in a cocoon beneath ground

Observations: Moth has solid dark tooth-like marks in centre of forewing which gives the moth its vernacular name and is diagnostic.
These marks tend to vary in size and clarity, sometimes virtually missing as in moth photo below.There are two colour forms with this moth being greyish brown and uniformly dark greyish brown.The subterminal line is white with the letter "W" being formed adjacent to the tornus.
Median lines are white with stimata and orbicular spot highlighted with black and white edging.
Moth is attracted to light,sugar and flowers.
