Wingspan: 38 - 44mm
Worldwide Distribution: Europe - less ( Channel Isles,Ireland,Portugal,Russia, Ukraine and some Mediterranean Islands) : Middle East
UK Distribution: First recorded 1981 in Kent,subsequently Essex,West Sussex & Surrey
UK Conservation Status -
Habitat: Coniferous Woodland : Plantations : Ancient Woodland Sites
Similar Species -
Pupa: Pupates in a cocoon spun up on the host plant
Overwinters as: Larva
Observations: The moth is a recent colonist where in 1981 it was found in numbers in a forest in Kent,where it is still locally frequent, and since has been found in Essex,west Sussex and Surrey in the Chiddingfold woodland complex and in Tugley Wood adjacent to Botany Bay.
Similar to Willow and Lydd Beauty this moth the cross line beyond middle of forewing is strongly curved in trailing half and usually lees kinked at the costa.
As seen in photo below the male antennae is feathered but finishes just before end of antennae.The moth is smaller than the Willow Beauty and is more speckled with dark scales.
The moth is attracted to light
