Description
Wingspan: 32-38mm
Worldwide Distribution: Europe - excluding (Azores,Balearic Is.,Canary Is.,Corsica,Crete,Croatia,Cyprus,Madeira,Malta,Portugal,Sardinia & Sicily) - eastwards throughout most of Palearctic ecozone to Japan : westwards to Nearctic region - Canada
UK Distribution: South-west,South-east,Southern England and Wales - well distributed but scarce : Midlands,East Anglia,northwards - thinly distributed : Northern England,mainland Scotland - recorded locally : Ireland - widespread but local.

Habitat: Ancient Broadleaved Woodland : Limestone Pavement

Overwinters as: Pupa
Observations: The moth forewing is light brown with fine dark reddish-brown speckling and a dark brown median band with slightly curved antemedian line and post median line jutting out centrally and posteriorly.Some moths as shown below have a pinkish tinge and others grey brown with the central median band varying in some individuals.
The female forewing is more curved than the males.
The moth is attracted to the light trap although most are usually males.
