Description
Wingspan: 32-38mm
Worldwide Distribution: Europe - less Finland,Estonia,Latvia,Lithuania,Norway,Russia-in south only,Sweden and most Mediterranean Islands
UK Distribution: Well distributed throughout most of Great Britain : Scotland - local : Isle of Man & Ireland - locally well distributed : Channel Isles - Jersey - local and occasional - Guernsey - rare

Habitat: Broadleaved Woodland : Open Woodland : Hedgerows : Gardens : River Banks

Pupa: Cocoon formed beneath the soil
Overwinters as: Ovum
Observations: The moth forewing is slightly hooked at the apex and is orange - yellow with a darker pinkish brown coloured median band.The reniform stigma and orbicula spot appear to merge and show clearly being darker than the median band although some specimens these mark show in outline only. The terminal band is also darker brown than the forewing at finishes just before the apex.The cilia are reddish brown.
The moth is often seen at the moth trap although generally in small numbers. The moth is not normally attracted to flowers or sugar.
