Description
Wingspan: 32 - 42mm
Worldwide Distribution: Europe - less (Ireland,Latvia,Luxembourg,N Russia & some Mediterranean Islands )
UK Distribution: Rare immigrant appearing in southern England

Similar Species -
Pupa: Pupates in cocoon beneath soil
Overwinters as: Adult
Observations: This moth is separated from the very similar Chestnut by the diagnostic black marks at base of reniform stigmata.
In some specimens the stigmata and orbicular spots can be ringed in reddish brown,Just below the forewing apex on the costa are two black dashes which vary in intensity between the species.
A rare migrant from mainland Europe appearing generally in south east England ,it seems to be increasing possibly due to global warming like many other migrant species.
The moth feeds on Ivy flowers and is attracted to light.
