Observations: A rather large pug it has two distinct forms of which E.i.f.subfulvata Haworth, 1809 is the nominate and common form, shown in photos 1 and 2 below. The centre of the forewing is covered in russet-brown whereas the second local form E.i.f.cognata Stephens, 1831 has the forewing pale/lead grey with small triangular median area in russet-brown,and cross lines oblique,angled, with black distinct discal spot.
E.i.f.cognata Stephens, 1831 tends to predominate in northern Britain,especially in Scotland.
Flies from dusk and is attracted to the light trap,usually appearing in small numbers.
