Description
Wingspan: 33-38mm
Worldwide Distribution: Europe (not Portugal and some Mediterranean Islands)
UK Distribution: South East England,East Anglia - well distributed in small numbers : South West England, Midlands, Wales and parts of Northern England - more local : Scotland - few reports : Channel Isles - Jersey - local - Guernsey - rare

Overwinters as: Ovum
Observations: This moth is fairly unmistakeable with its yellow or orange-yellow median area where the stigmata are edged with reddish brown or pinkish brown markings with the orbicular spot highlighted in the same background colour.The median lines are wavy.
The subterminal band is background colour and finishes at the termen just short of the apex which is left as yellow tip.The basal area has a background colour band leaving the area closest to the thorax yellow.
A rarer form has the median area deep orange or reddish orange with the background colour being a pinkish brown.
The moth is attracted to light and sugar usually found at the moth trap in small numbers.
This pretty moth is also known to feed on Ivy flowers and overipe late summer berries.
