Description

Worldwide Distribution: Europe - less (Channel Isles,Estonia,Finland,Ireland,Norway,Portugal,Russia,Spain and all Mediterranean Isles ) : Turkey
UK Distribution: Central,southern England from Dorset in west to N Yorkshire coast,including East Anglia

Overwinters as: Pupa
Observations: An unmistakable pug species with greyish forewings clearly marked with brown blotches or sinuous blackish streaks along costa from base to subterminal line, which tends to vary between individuals.
The moth is restricted to central,southern England and is nationally scarce under the UK biodiversity action plan.
The moth is attracted to light appearing in the "early hours".
