UK Distribution: Local in southern England from Midlands southwards.In south -west England and Wales the moth is very local.

Observations: Forewing is dark greyish brown to blackish with white spots along the costa where the first spot joins a basal cross band which forms a white lateral band along the dorsum as far as the tornus.The basal area and thorax is black with the head being white.Weak scale tufts are usually present at one third and two thirds.
Moth is attracted to light.
