Worldwide Distribution: Southern and Central Europe east to : S Siberia : Kuriles : Japan
UK Distribution: Central southern & South-west England,Wales,and Midlands north to Yorkshire-Cumbria -quite well distributed : Eastern England form Cambridgeshire,East Anglia to Yorkshire - local : Isle of Man - rare : Channel Isles - local & occasional

Pupa: Pupates in a cocoon underground
Overwinters as: Larva
Observations: This moth is quite distinctive with its straw coloured forewing background with a black patch on the dorsum near the base. The antemedial and postmedial lines are in fine black and are dentate with the stigmata showing clearly in white,whilst above the stigmata is another patch in black.
There is a terminal band in darker brown which starts in the tornal area and finishes just before the apex, which is highlighted with a light brown tip. The forewing is broad with a curved costa at about two thirds and the termen is strongly curved towards the tornus.
The moth is attracted to light where it can be found at the moth trap in low numbers. The moth can also be attracted by sugaring and will feeds on flowers.
