Description
Wingspan: 20-26mm
Worldwide Distribution: Europe - (excluding - Azores,Balearic Is.,Canary Is.,Crete,Madeira,Malta & N & S Russia) : Western Palearctic region
UK Distribution: Southern England,Wales & north-west England - fairly well distributed,locally fairly frequent : north-east England,southern Scotland & Ireland - local : Isle of Man - south - local : Channel Isles - local and occasional

Similar Species -
Pupa: Pupates in loose soil just below ground where it can be for up to five years
Overwinters as: Pupa,sometimes more than once
Observations: A well marked moth in various shades of brown ,white and black.The basal area is medium brown with antemedian and postmedian lines being in dark brown edged in white and amedian area in dark brown. The subterminal line is dentate and white with a very small black apial dash next to an outwards facing black spike. Terminal line made up of a series of black dashes.
The moth flies from dusk,feeds on flowers and comes to light in small numbers
