UK Distribution: South West & South East England,Wales,West Midlands,East Anglia,many places in Northern England and Southern Scotland - well distributed and fairly frequent : mainland Scotland,Central Southern England,northern half of Ireland - local : Isle of Man,Channel Isles - Jersey - fairly widespread but occasional

Overwinters as: Pupa
Observations: The forewing is dark grey brown with a single white band along the postmedian line which is highlighted centrally in black in the centre of this band. On the inside of this band there is an indentation just beyond mid point and a peak on the other side of the band adjacent to the costa.The antemdian line is less clear in darker brown with white edging intermittently. The basal area is a lighter brown than the remainder of the forewing.
Hindwing usually has distinct white cross band centrally.
The Small Rivulet, is as the name suggests,smaller than the Rivulet with two indentations on inner side of postmedian line with single peak as described for this moth.
Flies by dusk and is attracted to the light trap in very small numbers.
