Pupa: Pupates among the roots of the larval food plant
Overwinters as: A larva in the soils amongst the food plant roots where it also pupates. Is a larva September-June.
Observations: The Flounced Rustic is a common rather thickset moth that is both variable in size and forewing width.The forewing is variable in colour between light straw,dark brown and blackish brown. Within the media band is a black "coronet or crown" which joins the median and post median cross lines. Hindwingis white or brownish white(see below)
The costal streak is a series of white,black and straw coloured markings.
The reniform stigmata is bordered in black whereas with the Sandhill Rustic L.nickerlii it is edged with white.
The moth is attracted to light in large numbers and usually rests at night.
