Vernacular Name: Pied Smudge

Worldwide Distribution: Europe - less ( Channel Isles,Croatia,Greece,Ireland,Portugal,Slovenia,Ukraine & all Mediterranean Islands ) to Asia Minor
UK Distribution: Locally widespread throughout England and Wales,less so in south west and southern Scotland

Habitat: Woodland : Scrub
Similar Species -
Observations: The forewing is white with black patches along the dorsum and another set along the costa which when viewed from above with wings closed is like the "Easter Bunny".
The moth is common throughout England and Wales,excluding the south west and is also in southern mainland Scotland where it is spreading its range purely dependent on the the host plant Field Maple being present.
The moth is attracted to light.
