Ireland,Latvia,Lithuanis,Ireland,Norway,Poland,Russia - not South,Slovakia,Sweden,The Netherlands to Siberia and Far East
UK Distribution: SW England,S Wales,most of Midlands,E England,East Anglia - fens,Hampshire - Test Valley & Itchen - very local : N Wales,N Midlands,N England,Isle of Man,Scotland - fairly well distributed : Ireland - local : Channel Isles - Jersey - recorded once

Similar Species -
Pupa: Pupates in a cocoon on the ground
Overwinters as: Ovum
Observations: The moth is fairly unmistakable with reddish brown or purplish brown forewings with prominent orbicular spots and reniform stigmata,which has two white streaks emanating in one corner and finishing at approximately the terminal line with another short white line facing basally. These markings are diagnostic for this moth.
The forewing is fairly blunt with a very straight termen and slightly rounded costa.
Individuals from southern England on average are larger whilst individuals from the Norfolk Broads are brightly marked.
The moth is attracted to light,sugar and flowers.
