Worldwide Distribution: N.Africa : Libya : Southern Europe : Central Europe : S.Urals : SW.Siberia : Tuva : Altai : Egypt : Near East - Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tadjikistan, Turkestan
UK Distribution: Well distributed in Southern England,East Anglia,Lincolnshire,Yorkshire and Scilly Isles : Further north to southern Scotland,Southern Ireland and Isle of Ma, scattered records : Channel Isles-widespread and abundant

Observations: Making distinction between The Uncertain H.octogenaria, The Rustic H.blanda and this moth is extremely difficult, but here are a few points to help identification.
Pale to dark brownish with grey dusting or silvery grey on a forewing that has a virtually straight costa. The median band is feint and the reniform stigmata and orbicular spot are larger and more rounded,darker than the ground colour and edged with white.
Hindwings are whitish with a pearly sheen,often with a narrow grey outer margin.
The moth is a frequent visitor to the light trap,is attracted to sugar and feeds on flowers.
