Observations: The wing apex is blunt . The background colour ranges from rich brown,tawny brown,with a tendency for the female to be darker.The reniform stigmata and orbicular spot are darker than the ground colour and edged in white making them look very prominent.
The median line is usually wide and darker than the ground colour and join the two reniform stigmata's although on occasion this is feint.
The similar species Rustic H.blanda has a grey-brown or grey forewing.
The name Uncertain is given to this moth because of the similarity and confusion in seperating this species from The Rustic.
Other similar moths are the Vine's Rustic and the rare immigrant Powdered Rustic.
