Description

Worldwide Distribution: Europe - (excluding - Azores,Balearic Is.,Channel Is.,Canary Is.,Corsica,Crete,Cyprus,Madeira,Malta,Portugal,Sardinia & Sicily) : Palearctic Region
UK Distribution: England,Wales,Isle of Man,Ireland & lowland Scotland - well distributed and frequent : Channel Isles - widespread and frequent

Habitat: Gardens : Hedgerows : Roadside Verges : Woodland Rides : Scrubby Grassland

Overwinters as: Ovum
Observations: Although this moth looks like the Spinach,both in forewing colour and resting posture the median fascia are different with this moth having faded off antemedian and postmedian lines half way across the wing whereas the similar species is constant.There is also a faint row of dots after the postmedian line which are missing in the similar species.Generally markings are stronger with the Spinach which also has chequered fringes along the termen.
The moth flies from dusk and is attracted to light.
