Description

Worldwide Distribution: Europe : Transcaucasus : Jordan : Turkestan
UK Distribution: Common throughout England and Wales but more local further north.

Habitat: The moth prefers dry grassland : Sandy Heathland : Downland : Waste Ground
Similar Species -
Overwinters as: Larva
Observations: This moth's forewing has a long white longitudinal streak which is broken by a brown patch just after half way before splitting into branches or fingers which divide the curved outer brown cross line. The forewing is straw coloured.
The terminal line is made up of a series of black dots.
The similar species Agriphila geniculea (Haworth, 1811) forewing appears generally smoother and glossier and the curved cross lines are much sharper.For comparison look at Lepi-blog entry dated 19 August 2014.
The moth can be disturbed during the day and is active after dusk.
The moth is also attracted to light and is sometimes found in considerable numbers.
