Worldwide Distribution: Europe - (excluding - Azores,Canary Is.,Corsica,Crete,Cyprus,Lithuania,Madeira,Malta,Portugal,central,east and north-west Russia & Sardinia) : W Siberia
UK Distribution: England,Wales & lowland Scotland (including Orkneys) - well distributed and fairly frequent in most parts : Isle of Man,Ireland - local : Channel Isles - widespread and occasional in Jersey,rare on Guernsey

Pupa: Pupates in flimsy cocoon
Overwinters as: Ovum
Observations: The forewing is bright yellow with a strong reddish brown almost into black median fascia which is slightly undulating on the antemedian line and with two rearward facing humps on the postmedian line.
The forewing apex is whitish.
The moth is unmistakable and there is little variation found with this moth except in the southern Alps in France where they are paler and larger.
The moth is ofen seen flying around the host plant and is attracted to light.
