Observations: This rare migrant to SE England is widespread and frequent in western Europe, arriving in this country back in 1991.Since then over 40 have been recorded with one garden recording 5 suggesting the possibility of local breeding.Although normally recorded on the south coast the moth has been recorded as far north as Suffolk. They have been recorded in the Channel Isles where it is noted in most years from Guernsey and Jersey.
The moth is very variable although the normal form has a green band near or in the basal area of the forewing.Other forms have additional green and orange marking or the green band replaced by white although generally the rest of the forewing is dark.
The moth is attracted to light.
