Description
Vernacular Name: Rosy Tabby
Wingspan: 18-23mm
Worldwide Distribution: Southern Europe : Central Europe : Turkey : Cyprus : Transcaucasia : Crimea : Lebanon : Iran : Syria.
UK Distribution: Resident : South-occurs locally throughout southern half of England-common in south : Scarce in the North
UK Conservation Status -
Habitat: Woodland : Lowland heathland : Gardens : Waste ground
Similar Species -
Overwinters as: Larva
Observations: Using its common name the Rose Tabby E.flammealis is well known from its unusual resting posture with its head raised upwards.
The moth background is a variable reddish brown with a distinctive darker area from the antemedial fascia back to the forewing basal area and from the subterminal fascia back in a band towards the trailing wing edges.
Although a southern species it is expanding it range.
The moth is easily disturbed during the day,flies from dusk where it visits flowers and is also attracted to light.
