Description
Vernacular Names: Notch-wing Button
Wingspan: 18-22mm
Worldwide Distribution: Holarctic Region,in Europe not recorded in the following countries - Azores,Balearic Isles,Bulgaria,Canary Isles,Croatia,Crete,Corsica,Greece,Madeira,Malta,Portugal,Sardinia,Ukraine & Sicily

UK Conservation Status -
Habitat: Woodland : Gardens : Scrub : Marshland
Similar Species -
Overwinters as: Ovum
Observations: The exact distribution of this moth is possibly in doubt due to its likeness to the the similar species Acleris effractana (Hübner,1799) which recently was given separate species status for the second time and is considered to be a more northern species. The similar species tends to have a shallower emargination or scalloped costa and is generally less variable, although genitalia dissection is the only means to accurately separate the twp species species.
The ground colour of this moth is variable between pale yellowish brown and reddish brown as seen below with veins in brown or greyish brown although sometimes obscure. The median fascia is dark or greyish brown being darker on the termen side of this line. The apex comes to a point on the forewing.
The dorsum is highlighted along its edge in either orange or red.
The moth is attracted to light.
