Pupa: Pupates in a tough cocoon formed on a twig or branch
Overwinters as: Small Larva
Observations: The moth has a greyish brown forewing often tinted in lilac from the median area back to the base of the forewings. The Area adjacent to the apex is usually a darker brown which highlights the "hooked tip." The median lines are highlighted strongly in white, both on the forewings and hindwings and are edged with shades of darker brown. The head shows up strongly in dark orange.
Within the median area there are two close discal spots on each wing.
It should be noted that this moth is not a member of the Drepanidae family which contains most of the "hook-tip" moths.
Although this moth can be slightly confused with the Scalloped Hook-tip - Falcaria lacertinaria (Linnaeus, 1758) they can be separated by the resting posture of the latter which lifts its wings from the head and arches its wings which are scalloped and rusty brown.
The moth flies from dusk and is attracted to the moth trap in small numbers.
