Description
Wingspan: 29-36mm
Worldwide Distribution: Western Europe-Great Britain,Norway,Germany,Ireland,France,Spain & Portugal Only
UK Distribution: Local in Hampshire,Dorset,Wiltshire,East Anglia(Breckland) and Midlands : S.W.England,Wales,Isle of Man,northern England and mainland Scotland-Well distributed : Ireland-local (N & W coasts) : Channel Isles-occasional immigrant.

Habitat: Lowland heathland : Moorland : Grassy uplands : Coastal grasslands

Overwinters as: Larva
Observations: The moth is easily identified, being thin and with a silky sheen,very narrow across basal area and with a forewing costa that is straight.The ground colour is slate grey with the stigmata and orbicular spot being white in middle, edged with dark grey, and finally edged white. The orbicular spot appears similar in shape to the stigmata.The subtermial line is whitish and dentate forming facing forward teeth.There is a black patch that joins both the stigmata and the orbicular spot.
The males fly at dusk. The males are attracted to the light trap but the females less so.
