Description
Vernacular Name: Brilliant Neb

Worldwide Distribution: Europe - less (Channel Isles,Croatia,Ireland,Luxembourg,Norway,portugal,Slovenia and all Mediterranean Islands )
UK Distribution: Eastern,southern England,Midlands and south Yorkshire - local in parts : south Wales - rare

Habitat: Calcareous Grassland : Roadside edges : Waste Ground
Similar Species -
Overwinters as: Larva
Observations: A nationally scarce species found in parts of eastern and south England,the Midlands and south Yorkshire. It is also rare in south Wales.
Although similar to M.metzneriella this moth lacks any black stigmata on the forewing and is the only Metzneria species with red-orange streaks although the similar species does at times have strong reddish streaks with no orange tinge.
The moth can be disturbed during the day from near the foodplant,flies at night and is attracted to light.
