Overwinters as: Larva
Observations: Forewing light brown with reddish brown shading, with venation highlighted in greyish and whitish and black dots at one third along the forewing,one half and two thirds.The black dots are inconsistent and can be missing altogether.
The similar species M.lappella is lighter especially in the apical and terminal areas and is much larger than M metzneriella.
Clearly worn individuals of this genera would have to be identified through genitalia examination.
The moth flies at night and is attracted to light.
