Description
Wingspan: 22-28mm
Worldwide Distribution: Europe - excluding (Azores,Balearic Is.,Canary Is.,Crete,Cyprus,Greece,Madeira,Malta,E,N & NW Russia,Sardinia & Sicily) : Siberia : Amur : Ussuri : Sakhalin : Korea : Japan : China : Taiwan
UK Distribution: Common throughout most of Great Britain although local in mainland Scotland

Habitat: Broadleaved Woodland : Scrub : Gardens : Hedgerows
Similar Species -
Pupa: Pupates in cocoon among leaf litter
Overwinters as: Pupa
Observations: Although similar to Fan-foot this moth is easily separated by its smaller size and by the outer cross line which curves gently to meet the apex, something none of the other "Fan-foots" display. Markings on this moth are also generally sharper than the similar species.
The moth is common through most of Great Britain only becoming local further north in the Scottish mainland.
The moth flies from dusk and feeds on flowers and sugar and is attracted to light.
