Description
Vernacular Name: White Sallow Case-bearer
Wingspan: 13 - 16mm
Worldwide Distribution: Europe - less (Bulgaria, Channel Isles,Croatia,Greece,Ukraine, Spain is doubtful and most Mediterranean Islands : to Siberia
UK Distribution: Locally distributed throughout much of England and Wales : Most frequent in west.
UK Conservation Status -
Habitat: Fens : Bogs : Damp Woodland : River-banks
Similar Species -
Overwinters as: Larva
Observations: A Coleophora of small willow species found in waterlogged areas such as bogs and marshes situated mostly in the southern half of the British Isles.
Like many other of the species the moth is almost impossible to identify with dissection but this moth is white with dark speckling with a buff tuft at the base of the antennae.
The moth is attracted to light.
