Worldwide Distribution: Europe - (excluding - Azores,Belgium,Canary Is.,Cyprus,Ireland,Latvia,Lithuania,Luxembourg,Madeira,Malta,Norway & Slovenia)
UK Distribution: Scarce on coast between Sussex and Cornwall and the Scilly Isles

Habitat: Vegetated Shingle : Chalk/Limestone Grassland : Cliffs : Sandhills
Similar Species -
Observations: A moth only found along the southern coasts from Susssex to Cornwall and the Scilly Isles it is a nationally scarce species under the UK BAP Biodiversity Action Plan.
A fairly plain brown moth with darker antemedial and postmedial lines which try to converge at the dorsum with added feature of extremely long legs and antennae and a prominent white crescent or V-shaped discal spot.
The similar species S.punctalis (Fabricius, 1775) has a dark discal spot and the postmedial line is highlighted distally.
The moth can be disturbed during the day,flies from dusk and is attracted to light.
