UK Distribution: South-west England - quite well distributed and locally abundant : southern England,Wales - less frequent,more local : south-west Scotland - established : west of Northern Ireland - numerous ,thinly scattered in Irish Republic : Channel Isle -Jersey - local & rare

Observations: An easily recognised moth being the only footman moth in Britain with plain black velvety forewings and a red neck or collar.Wings turn brownish black when worn.
The hindwing third of the abdomen is deep yellow on the upperside and even more extensive on the underside.
The moth is resident although it is thought the few specimens caught in the light trap in the east are possibly immigrants.
