Description
Wingspan: 22-25mm
Worldwide Distribution: Europe - (excluding - Azores,Balearic Is.,Canary Is.,Corsica,Crete,Cyprus,Greece,Ireland,Madeira,Malta,Portugal,N Russia,Sardinia & Sicily)
UK Distribution: On the sandy heath in Breckland : Chalk downland in southern England : sand-dunes on the coasts of England and Wales

Similar Species -
Pupa: Pupate in loose soil or plant litter
Overwinters as: Pupa
Observations: The moth is grey or greyish brown with quite sharp apex and series od darker brown cross lines which tend to be widest in the median area of the wing often edged in white. Two prominent dark discal spots centrally positioned in median fascia and blackish apial streaks.
Being a moth with specific habitat requirement it is listed as a nationally scarce B moth under the UK biodiversity action plan.
Although similar the Oblique Carpet has a much thicker apial streak which traverses half way across the termen.
The moth flies from sunset and is attracted to light.
