Worldwide Distribution: Europe : Asia Minor : Caucasus : N.Kazakhstan : S.Siberia : Amur : Primorye : Sakhalin : S.Kuriles-Heilongjiang : Liaonin : Hebei : Inner Mongolia : Shanxi : Sichuan : Korea : Japan.
UK Distribution: Well distributed in central souther England,south-west,south-east,East anglia,west Wales and Scilly Isles : Ireland-rare : Channel Isles-widespread and abundant

Overwinters as: Larva
Observations: The moth background colour is orangy-red with darker shaded terminal and costal bands.The post medial cross-line is black and wavy forming teeth like markings facing rearwards and a subterminal cross-line made up of a series of black spots.
The forewings are tapered at the base before changing at the median point, and are nicely rounded past the apex.
The moth can be found during the day at rest on branches or against a fence.
It is a regular to the moth light trap where it can be found in good numbers.
