Description
Wingspan: 33 - 42mm
Worldwide Distribution: Europe - less (Channel Isles,Finland,Ireland,Norway & most Mediterranean Islands ) to the Amur region of northern China-Siberia
UK Distribution: Not seen since nineteenth century

Habitat: Warm sunny biotopes

Observations: A very rare migrant from southern Europe which has appeared in Britain less than 10 times where between 1815 and 1859 two specimens were taken in Berkshire,one in Essex,one in Yorkshire and three in north Wales with no recordings since.
The male forewing is yellowish marked with black "veins" with black discal spot. Hindwing is orange-yellow with black border at the margin and costa, discal spot black, joining up with costa.Abdomen is orange-yellow and black.
The female has pale yellow forewingwith just two small black discal spots. Hindwing yellow with fainter black border with half moon discal spot.
The overall range of this moth is from Europe eastwards to the Amur region of northern China and Siberia.
