Worldwide Distribution: Europe - ( Excluding - Azores,Balearic Is.,Bulgaria,Canary Is,Channel is.,Corsica,Crete,Croatia,Cyprus,Greece,
Hungary,Ireland,Italy,Luxembourg,Madeira,Malta,Portugal,Romania,Sardinia,Sicily,Slovenia and Ukraine) : eastwards through Palearctic Region including India
UK Distribution: Where host plant exists in parts of England and Wales but most common in southern England

Habitat: Boggy Heathland

Overwinters as: Larva
Observations: A nationally scarce species under the UK Bioderversity Action Plan it is restricted to the heathland bogs found in places like the new forest in Hampshire in between June and August, when two broods are produced.
The forewing is brown with the cleft occurring at one half wing length, marked with two traverse white cross lines across the lobes.
The moth flies low in warm, still afternoon conditions and is easily disturbed from vegetation,flies at dusk and is attracted to light.
