Description

Pupa: Overwintering as a fully grown larva it pupates April - May

Observations: The forewing is greyish white to greyish brown with sparse speckling in black which appears more around the basal area almost forming a patch.
The broad darker brown median fascia is characteristic for this moth as is a small dark brown costal patch just before the apex.
The subspecies .S. m. musculinana (Kennel, 1899) is found in Orkney,Shetland,Outer Hebrides.
Sometimes confused with C. diversana although this moth is nationally scarce and does not have the white on the forewing.
The moth is easily disturbed,flying late in the afternoon,and is attracted to light.
