Observations: A rare migrant from southern Europe ranging eastwards to Iran and India, appearing occasionally in southern England.Between 1994 and 2004 there have been six records, one at Dymchurch,Kent on 5 August 1994: West Bexington, Dorset on 5 August 1994 : St Agnes,Cornwall on 10 August 1995 : Ringwood,Hampshire on 19 August 1996 : Sherbourne St. John,Hampshire on 13 August 2004.
The vernacular name for this moth is derived from the white basal area (Pale Shoulder) of the forewing.
Visits flowers in sunshine and is attracted to light.
