Worldwide Distribution: Europe - excluding (Lithuania,Malta,N Aegean Isles,& Sicily ) : Moth is found worldwide
UK Distribution: Formerly throughout Britain but now absent from most of its original range,having hardly been seen in past 50 years

Similar Species -
Larva: Larva feeds on fur,hair,feathers and pellets,naturally occurring in birds' nests,wasps' nests,wool and other manufactured products,feeding within a silken tube
Observations: The moth used to formerly be widespread and locally abundant but now is proposed as a rare Red Data Book Species having almost vanished from its original range,hardly being seen in the past 50 years.
The forewings are dark brown with a purplish tinge in the basal half and white in the rest with scattered grey and black markings terminally.
Moth is attracted to light.
