Observations: This moth is very rare in the south and is separated from the Gold Spot by being slightly smaller, forewing orange brown, with the rear median silver spot, smaller and more rounded,the subapical silver streak longer and thinner and by genitalia dissection.
Darker cross lines are clear on median area and area adjacent to subapical silver streak.
Subspecies gracilis (Lempke, 1966) is found througout most of Europe and has a type locality in the Netherlands whereas the nominate subspecies putnami (Lempke, 1966) is North America and has type locality of New York.
Feeds on flowers from dusk and is attracted to light.
