Description
Wingspan: 50 - 65mm
Worldwide Distribution: Europe - Not Greece,Ireland & several Mediterranean Islands to Turkey,Armenia,North Africa.
UK Distribution: South-east & South-west England,South Midlands and Wales - well distributed in woodland areas : Local in central & Eastern England to Cumbria,south-west Scotland.

Observations: This moth is quite distinctive with greyish or brownish forewing with dull yellow and brown marbling and brown streaks situated across the forewing.The hindwing is yellowish white and shows outside of the forewing costa when at rest. (see photos)
The moth is locally common where oak woodland is present.
Similar to the very rare immigrant Large Dark Prominent.
The moth is attracted to light where it can be found in small numbers.
