Worldwide Distribution: Europe
UK Distribution: Resident : Locally distributed throughout most of Britiain being more local in the north.

Habitat: Calcareous grassland : Meadows : Marshes : Open woodland : Coastal habitat
Similar Species:-
Pupa: Pupates in tough semi transparent cocoon
Overwinters as: Larva in cocoon
Observations: Not a particularly well marked moth A.fuscalis has forewing background colour that is greyish with two darker cross lines at one third and two thirds the length of the forewing.
The moth is not common and in my experience is easily disturbed during the day,as I was to find with the specimen below.
The moth is also attracted to light.
